Ilya Filimontsev - Moscow, Russia
"I enjoy sculpting horses because they are beautiful animals and difficult to make. It is a challenging theme to sculpt in sand, for example to find ways to support the legs of the animals."
Ilya is a student of the Moscow State Academic Art Institute named after V.I. Suricov.
His specialty is sculpture. Ilya first started sand sculpting in 2005. Since that time he has traveled to many sand sculpting events in Asia, Europe and North America and has won many awards in sand sculpting competitions around the globe. When asked what he likes most about sand sculpting he says “I like working with the forms and the scale of the sculptures. I also like the traveling.”
